The Trek Fuel EX 8 Gen 7 2026 is a confident, do-it-all trail bike built on Trek's Alpha NEXT Platinum aluminium frame, with 150mm of front travel and 145mm out back. It's built for riders who want a bike that's equally happy on an all-day epic or a quick after-work lap, without asking you to compromise on either.

WHO THIS BIKE SUITS

You want a genuinely versatile trail bike — capable enough for technical terrain, comfortable enough for long days.

You're after a dependable SRAM Eagle T-Type drivetrain that shifts cleanly and needs little fuss.

You want proper Fox suspension (Rhythm 36 fork, Performance Float X shock) without stepping up to carbon pricing.

You'd rather have 4-piston brakes and a dropper post as standard than add them later.

IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT

If you want lighter weight and a stiffer ride, the carbon Fuel EX 9 models are the step up.

If you'd rather have motor assistance for bigger days, the Fuel+ EX covers the same trail-bike character with a battery on board.

WHERE IT SITS IN THE RANGE

The Fuel EX 8 sits in the middle of the aluminium Fuel EX line-up — above the entry-level Fuel EX 5, with a properly specced SRAM Eagle 70 T-Type drivetrain and Fox performance suspension that punches above its position in the range.

HOW IT RIDES

Suspension

The Fox Rhythm 36 fork and Fox Performance Float X shock give you 150mm/145mm of well-controlled travel — enough to take the edge off rough trails without feeling vague on smoother ground.

Drivetrain

SRAM Eagle 70 T-Type is a 12-speed, mechanical, hookless-compatible groupset — reliable, easy to service, and a genuine step up from entry-level drivetrains.

Brakes

SRAM DB 8 four-piston hydraulic discs give you confident, controllable stopping power on steep, technical descents.

Wheels and tyres

Bontrager Line TLR 30 tubeless-ready rims, paired with Bontrager Brevard Pro XR 29x2.50" tyres — a solid, dependable trail-riding combination.

THE FINAL WORD

The Trek Fuel EX 8 is where most riders should start when they're looking at a proper aluminium trail bike. Come in and talk to us — we can help you work out whether the 8 is the right spec level for how you ride, or whether stepping up to carbon makes sense.
